Why we started the Manifesto Challenge

Exactly a month from today the British people will be asked to elect a new Government and Prime Minister. Theresa May’s decision to call a snap election to increase her majority in advance of the upcoming Brexit negotiations has caught everyone off guard.

The Prime Minister might want this election to be all about Brexit but the outcome will have a profound impact on what sort of country we want to be for decades to come.

Here at Volteface we want to ensure that drug policy is not forgotten during the election campaign.

Over the course of the next week we will be publishing daily posts on the issues we think every party should be considering in their manifestos. This is our Manifesto Challenge.

We welcome your feedback before we publish a final version on 22nd May.

The areas we intend to cover are as follows. We will explore each throughout the coming week:

  1. Reducing drug related deaths
  2. Tackling Spice use among vulnerable groups
  3. Regulation and control of adult use of cannabis
  4. Promoting club drug testing and harm reduction services
  5. Access to medical cannabis
