Volteface and Metropolis Announce Manchester Spice Summit for July 14th

by Calum Armstrong

MetroPolis and Volteface are proud to announce details of our one day event which will bring together key experts and stakeholders in a bid to work out how best to tackle the city’s ‘spice’ crisis.

Spice has become a huge public health issue in the UK – Volteface has committed itself to covering and analysing the alarming increase of adverse effects connected with Spice use over the past months.

Responding to ‘Spice’: Developing an integrated response will take place on Friday 14th July at Manchester Metropolitan University, and is the latest event in our ongoing collaboration with MetroPolis.

The event will begin at 9.45am with an opening address from Greater Manchester Mayor Andy Burnham.

The days proceedings will follow on from our High Stakes Prison Symposium last month, which was also conducted as part of Volteface’s collaboration with MetroPolis.

The event will involve a range of integration and collaboration opportunities for a diverse array of organisations including key stakeholders from: academia, public policy, NHS, PHE, National Offender Management, probation, prisons, housing, homeless sector, mental health, substance use services, public health, community safety, children’s services, crime and disorder, policing and policy think tanks.

The aim is to develop an integrated strategy to reduce use and a range of harms and impact that the use of synthetic cannabinoid receptor agonists (more commonly referred to as ‘Spice’) are currently causing to users and front line services and in our prisons and city centres. This includes developing ways to reduce the stigma and impact to users and communities.

This event is invite only – please contact Volteface for further information.
